METROPOLITAN ANTHONY (PACKANICH) ABOUT THE SOUL, LIFE AND DEATH: 5 THOUGHTS

 Autumn reflections.

Cleaning fallen leaves is comparable to clearing the soul. Seems like you have collected all the foliage and cleaned the yard, but on the next day you go out, and no matter how you cleaned it– everything is in the foliage again.  The incessant process of clearing our soul is the same. If you get rid of some sins, others will manifest. And so day by day you clean out and clean out the soul.

Life is the taming of ourself, of our will. And just as a rider breaks a stubborn horse by saturating it, otherwise it will not obey him and he will not be able to ride it, so we must break our will, our passions that tear us apart, otherwise we will not hear the God’s Word behind them.

We should not live only in expectations. Any expectations lead to inevitable disappointment and subsequent anger. We draw the future for ourselves and imagine the reactions of other people in those outlines and colors that are characteristic of our nature or momentary mood, but the other person sees everything in his own way, not in ours. Inflated expectations are the first stage to despair. Despair leads to a retreat from God.

The transience of our life is the grace of God. Remembering about death is a saving thread. What would a restless sinful person "do" if he were immortal on earth? The framework of earthly life gives us wings to fly up above it, to set our sight to the Sky, to touch eternity.

You need to look for your things with your heart. The mind can cheat and trick.
