METROPOLITAN ANTHONY (PACKANICH): TRAGEDIES MUST UNITE PEOPLE, BUT NOT DIVIDE

Actual dreadful time shows many human’s characteristics, hidden before.

So, people, being in the thick of the events, against all odds, continue to help neighbors, work and pray. But here’s a paradox: many of those, who stand safe and secure, behave more emotionally unsteady than those who definitely sense a danger.

How many episodes when people are fully consumed with unlimited horror «serial» in their smartphones, on the monitor of computer or on the screen on TV and totally forget about those who need them mostly: about their own wives, husbands, children and parents.

On the one side, it’s accountable psychologically. Everything what’s happening fears. And human tend to make himself familiar with suffered people, to project the whole nightmare onto himself, to feel guilty for being save.

The reaction on such condition can be various, but it’s often far from constructive proposals. Sometimes, people begin to do different types of net-activism. They think that they can impact on the situation by this way. But it’s self-deluding.

To worry about suffering people is normal. But how we can help them actually? The real help now isn’t slogans and «fighting» online. The real help is a prayer and beneficence.

And here’s one important thing to understand: you can’t justify your irresponsible relation to those, who are with you now and who Lord put under care for you foremost, by some seeming care about far people.

Tragedies must unite people, but not divide. If someone is safe now, all happenings must become for him as one more reason to thank Lord for peaceful sky, for the bread on the table, for alive relatives. It must teach everybody to be more attentive to each other, to take care of each other more. Sooner or later, the war will be over. But human touch can be lost, and it will not be possible to restore it.

Love each other, sympathize with each other, pray for each other! Exactly this Lord expects from us, but not some slogans or PR-campaigns.
