METROPOLITAN ANTHONY (PACKANICH): SERVE CHRIST

Today, the Church of Christ honors the memory of the Holy women (myrrophores), the faithful companions of Christ. They show us an example of true service to the Lord. This service was manifested not only in their visible works, but also in invisible ones — in sincerity and loyalty to Christ outrance.

The myrrophores nobly went all the way with Christ: they accompanied Him during their travels, shared universal jubilation, did not leave the Master on the way of the cross, on Calvary, at the Cross itself. Their sincerity, courage and dedication, incomparable tender love for Christ inspire us today for a special love for the Lord, the desire to serve Him till a death.

Will we be loyal to the Lord when there are no visible manifestations of His presence in our view, when the clouds thicken over us and when we feel abandoned? Is our faith true?

How will we behave, if we are deprived of the usual comfort, if slander pourfrom the outside, and maybe if threats appear, when everything that is sacred to us will be trampled and destroyed. Will we keeployalty in this case? Will we have enough courage?

This is the culmination point of our faith. It’s the moment of clarity. Our service to the Lord is in the conscious passage of all the trials that have befallen us, in accepting personal Golgotha, in maintaining loyalty to Christ to the end.

Christ does not make anyone follow Him. He did not call up the myrrophores to follow Him. They went themselves at the behest of the heart — for eternal truth and eternal salvation. Exactly the myrrophores were the first to announce the world about the Risen Christ. What a trust!

Women's nature is special. It contains so much dedication, love and patience, without which she could not have become a good mother, wife, assistant, christian. All these beautiful qualities can come to life in each of us and lead to spiritual fruits, if we ourselves, follow Christ, at the behest of the heart, but not for the sake of appearance. Because any virtues acquire meaning and beauty only when we sincerely know Christ with all our hearts, when we strive for Him. Without this, any service is false and meaningless.
