METROPOLITAN ANTHONY (PACKANICH): WHO SHOULD WE BELIEVE?

Now is the time when the flow of information, being received by a person, has become so abundant and abrasive in a way that it poses a natural question: who to believe?

Because even official structures in different spheres sometimes give out information that controverts everything that was presented by the same structures earlier. It is not surprising that people get lost in the endless spiral of changing trends, political, advertising slogans and propagandic manipulations.

Who can we trust in this situation?

I think, for christians, the issue should be considered in a slightly different perspective. Because we know from the Holy Scriptures that trusting anyone in a sinful earthly life is generally a thankless affair. «All men are liars,» says the Psalmist (Psalm 115:2). And he also reminds us: "Do not put your trust in princes, Nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help." (Psalm 145:3).

That’s why for any christian, we should be careful about any information, no matter how actively it is spread by the world media.

Much more important for us is the question not how much we can trust the information received, but how important it is for the salvation of our souls in general.

Very often (and lately almost constantly) we are drawn into various confrontations. We’re forced to take one side or another in violent conflicts, which, if we think over about it, we absolutely do not need. Secondary and third-rate things are presented as something important. But if you look at all these through the prism of common sense, from the perspective of our eternal life, it becomes clear that all this is vanity, that is not worth the expended efforts and nerves.

As soon as we feel that we are about to burn with anger from the information we receive (in addition, it’s often far from "righteous"), we should immediately check ourselves together and ask: how important is this for the salvation of my soul?

And suddenly it turns out that everything that just seemed to us undoubtedly important will become something ridiculous, unworthy, secondary, or even insane.

As soon as the devil does not try to distract us from the one for needs! What kind of "information technology" he does not involve. But after all, we ourselves give him food: just look at what we argue about. Is it really important to forget about eternal life in the Kingdom of God?

So, it is always worth to keep in mind prayer and the thought of salvation of the soul. And only with them we should measure all the real or contrived problems that the media and social networks feed us.

Only then we will be able to take approach more composedly and sensibly to the perception of any information. And then the question about who can and cannot be trusted will be solved by itself.
