METROPOLITAN ANTHONY (PAСKANICH) ABOUT HOW WE SHOULD TREAT EACH OTHER DURING THE CRISIS

In recent days, it seems that last year's history is repeating itself, when on the background of a pandemic and quarantine, people argued in violent verbal battles, cursing each other.

It was safe to assume that over the past time, the people (especially believers) have decided about their attitude to the events taking place and have reduced their emotions, but alas.

As soon as information about the next quarantine measures appeared, the hate flared up with vengeance.

Surprisingly, but even people separated by political barriers forget about yesterday's strifes in order to unite with their ex-opponents. But not for the sake of peace and forgiveness, but for the sake of a new hate, this time quarantine or anti-quarantine.

"Vaccinators" and "anti-vaccinators", «masks» and «anti-masks» — all come up with evil and offensive nicknames for each other, curse and wish ill.

At this moment, it may seem to us that we are fighting for the common good, admonishing the unreasonable and preaching common sense. But in fact, we are clearly not behaving like christians. We humiliate our brothers and sisters, exalt ourselves over them, sow hate, anger and rage.

Christians don't behave like that. If we believe that our brother is wrong, he should be gently and unobtrusively enlightened. If he is not ready to listen to our moral teachings, it is worth leaving him alone and just quietly pray for his understanding. If hate has gone off between you, it is worth temporarily leaving communication, but not leaving a prayer for him. This is the true christianity.

And as soon as our fingers over the computer keyboard or smartphone screen begin to write something offensive, insulting and evil, let's remember the words of our Lord: "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

Our task now, in such a difficult time, is not to stoke up an annoyance and malevolence, but to comfort and strengthen each other. To treat each other as carefully and attentively as possible. And this is what will be counted to us on the Day of Judgment, but not the feeling of our imaginary rightness.
